Data Migration to SE V19
Data Migration to SE V19
(OP)
I am using a 3D templating software package to produce 3D point clouds for organic and difficult shapes we run into templating stair systems, etc. This software can save out the data in the following formats...
2D DXF (.dxf)
3D DXF (.dxf)
3D Studio (.3ds)
VRML 1.0 (.wrl)
VRML 2.0 (.wrl)
Wavefront (.obj)
RAW (.raw)
IGES (.igs)
Rhino (.3dm)
STL (.stl)
Maya Script (.ma)
Is there any way to get this three dimensional data into SE V19 in a format other than a 2D DFT file so that I can use it to generate a model from?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Data Migration to SE V19
you can use;
3D DXF (.dxf) this will produce a .sat file from the
embedded 3D-data which can then be imported
into SE. It is, however, a dumb solid.
If possible the embeded ACIS 3D-part should be
at Version 7.0, higher versions might work but I'm
not sure
IGES (.igs) can be imported directly

RE: Data Migration to SE V19
When I save the fiel to 3D DXF I do not get an SAT file, is this something that my templating software shoudl produce or is does SE produce it?
RE: Data Migration to SE V19
I've imported an .iges 3D-File into SE (V19/Sp3) with no
problems. Exporting also no problems except for 2D where
SE must have SP2 at least otherwise it will not work.
When a 3D-DXF is created there is a 2D-part and a 3D-part
which created as an embedded ACIS file in .sat format. When
the .dxf file is opened (template normal.dft) the 2D-Part is
shown and the 3D-Part is a seperate file which must then
converted by an extra open.
The creating software must provide this 3D-Part
Whichever method you choose carry out some tests with different
files and probably different import options set!
