Assembly Relationships

Assembly Relationships

Assembly Relationships

(OP)
I'm having issues with establishing a relationship in an assembly drawing.  I have a rectangular rubber stopper that I am trying to insert into a rectangular hole and I cannot get the relationship to work properly.  I have been attempting to use the "Flash Fit" and the "Insert" relationships, seperatly, but with no success.

Thank you in advance for the help.

RE: Assembly Relationships

Is your stopper tapered or drafted in any manner?

If not, then try this:

First, try using the standard relationships not flash fit.

Second, place the top of the stopper relative to the surface of the cutout using the planar align and then you can offset the surfaces if necessary.

Then use the mate constraint to place the edges of the stopper against the walls of the cutout - offsetting the fit if necessary.

If you stopper is tapered, you can use the reference plane in the stopper part to place it.  If you did not create the stopper centered on the reference planes, then you can add some planes that pass through the center of the part.  Then create some planes that pass through the center of the cutout.

If these ideas don't work, let me know.  There are a few different ways to fit parts together, but these are the ones I use most frequently.

RE: Assembly Relationships

Another possibility I have had success with is to show all the reference planes for both items, and using planer align align all the planes, not the edges.

Note, this will only work if both parts were drawn centered to the planes in the .par files.

RE: Assembly Relationships

I guess I should read the other responses first.  This is the same technique suggested by Kyle....
