See above link for the specification in question.  Does anyone know what purpose the ammonium carbonate serves in this instance?  I have ran Organic samples in a muffle furnace per AASHTO T-267, which uses a lower temperature over a longer period, but the ammonium carbonate is a new step to me.  Thanks in advance.

Got me. Suggest you contact OCA and ask why they don't simply specify the AASHTO or ASTM procedure.
