SS 304 vs SS 316

SS 304 vs SS 316

SS 304 vs SS 316

(OP)
Can SS304 be used instead SS316 in chloride environment for constructing rapid gravity filters in the treatment of water process.

Any suggestion would be appreciated

RE: SS 304 vs SS 316

304 has significantly less resistance to chloride pitting corrosion than 316 does.
If you need to replace 316 you need to look at alloys with equal or better pitting resistance.  You might consider duplex stainless alloys like 2205, or maybe even LDX2101 or AL2003.

RE: SS 304 vs SS 316

Only if you want to replace it with greater frequency or risk the problems associated with pitting, cracking, etc.
