Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

(OP)
Hi Folks,
Last week we bumped from SW2006 SP5.1 to SW2007 SP2.2, with very little internal testing. Let's say I'm not happy. Anyways...for one, my saved "Copy Options Wizard" didn't work at all. I had to re-map everything as well as changing all my settings. And two, I cannot get "Sheet Formats" file path to work.  I checked all folders under "Tools", "Options”,” File Locations" and all the file paths are correct. It seems to keep pointing to the default sheet formats in the C:\ drive. My basic templates work when I select "New", but when I "Add Sheet" to a drawing, it points to the SW templates. All the other file paths are working fine; just the sheet formats are giving me problems.

Thanks,

Macduff spin

RE: Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

Some clarification... are the SW templates on your C: drive included in the Sheet Format or Template paths?  Or is it just the custom files?  My experience with SW2007 has been that if I point only to the custom templates/formats, I'm okay, but if I include the SW template folder as one of the file locations, I run into problems.

Whenever I try to add a sheet, I get an error saying "Could not locate sheet format" just before it locates the correct sheet formats.  It's annoying, but not a show-stopper.

PDMAdmin,
I deleted the SW default "Sheet Formats" file path (C:\ Drive), and only pointing the file path to my companies custom "Sheet Formats" on the network (i.e. X:\ Drive). All my "Sheet Formats" have the .SLDDRT file extension. I don't know the problem because I've been doing this for years and never had a problem.

RE: Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

I have been the same problem, but just accepted it as a bug you get whenever they "fix" something.  I pointed everything that has to do with sheet formats and templates to the same folder, but still get the "The sheet format could not be located" error.

Tools > Options > System Options tab > File Locations:
Document templates
Sheet Formats

also System Options tab > Default templates
All point to the same location and I also have "Prompt user to select document template" checked.

I also don't like the way they "fixed" the automatic-add-sheet you get now.  Whenever you add a sheet, you used to get an option to pick what sheet size you wanted, but you do not get that option anymore.  If you are on an a-size sheet, the added sheet will be a-size.  If you are on a b-size sheet, you get a b-size sheet.  If you only use 1 size sheet in a drawing packet, then it's not an issue.

BUT I figured that if this is the only problem SW is giving me, then I am in good shape.

Colin,
After you re-link everything, did you reboot your pc?
Shutdown SW, then reboot. Check to see if your links are there.

Yeah, I did that with no avail.

For clarification on the copy setting wizard.  It didn't work because it's not intended to.  It will not work across versions at this time.

RE: Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

The following does work for us. The following are the templates we have copied to everyone’s C: drive at C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Templates

D1.drwdot
D1.slddrt
D2.slddrt
Part.prtdot
Assembly.asmdot

Default Templates in System Options are:
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Templates\Part.prtdot
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Templates\Assembly.asmdot
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Templates\D1.drwdot

File Locations in System Options are:
Show folders for: Document Templates
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Templates

Show folders for: Sheet Formats
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\Templates

Our swOptions.sldreg did work from SolidWorks 2006 to SolidWorks 2007 for us. We did have to copy it to our local drive to get it to work.

RE: Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

Macduff - if sldwkmin is in fact correct, you can still import your settings in to your current SW2007 installation as long as you have the original SW2006 sldreg file:

-take a "Copy Settings" backup of your current 2007 settings, just in case
-change file extension of the original 2006 sldreg file to REG
-edit the REG file - do a find and replace in the notepad editor to replace all instances of "Solidworks 2006" with "Solidworks 2007"

The settings in SW2006 that are unchanged in SW2007 (like file locations, many system options etc.) will revert to their 2006 settings.

RE: Sheet Formats-SW2007 SP2.2

engAlright,
I never even thought to edit the swOptions.sldreg file. That is way cool, a star for you.
