@#$%&! Backups

@#$%&! Backups

@#$%&! Backups

(OP)
I can't quite figure out backups in SWX 2006.  After my most recent crash I lost a couple hours worth of work.

When working with assemblies & parts it doesn't seem to backup often enough, but in drawing mode it backs up so often it slows me down.

I'v experimented with the Auto Recover settings but can't find a happen median.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Save early...
Save often...
Don't rely on SolidWorks backups to CYA.
I've NEVER been happy with SolidWorks backups or auto-recover files.
I hate to say it... but AutoCad worked pretty good in that respect.
SolidWorks backups have been sub-standard since day one for me.

But it wouldn't surprise me if somebody has figured this out.

RE: @#$%&! Backups

I was having file corruption issues a while back and my VAR recommended using the Backup feature.

The recommended settings are:
Uncheck Auto-recover
Check under Backup:
Number of backup copies per document: 5
Backup folder: (I use a non-standard folder on my D drive)
(Don't save the backup files in the same directory as originals.)
Remove backups older than 7 days

Otherwise, I save each major revision of my projects in its own directory (such as 070201 for today's revision).  I never seem to have any issues, although it's extremely rare for me to experience a crash.
