Allthread Suport Sizing

Allthread Suport Sizing

Allthread Suport Sizing

Can anyone point me to some reference material on properly sizing hanging supports utlizing allthread?  The two concerns that come to mind are the strength of the rod itself and the weight that the attached bolt can support.

RE: Allthread Suport Sizing

There are many manufacturers of pipe hangers, and all are rated for the load they can carry.

I am looking more towards supporting HVAC equipment (air handlers etc.) or equipment platforms (water heaters, etc).  I know I could calculate it based on the strength of the threaded rod and the 'grip' of the threads, nut sizes, etc.  I am just hoping someone might have a handy dandy reference.

RE: Allthread Suport Sizing

There's all-thread, and threaded rod.  All-thread comes from the hardware store, and it's junk.  Not made of the same material twice in a day, and load capacity all over the map.

Threaded rod is the stuff listed by Grinnell and others specifically for supporting pipe and equipment.  Like Satchmo says, it's in any reputable support manufacturer's catalog.  It will have ASTM grades listed along with capacity data.

Thanks to both.
