What are semiconductor fuses and what are their applications, advantages etc?

Semiconductor fuses are very fast acting fuses used to protect power semiconductors from over current. You will commonly see them in large DC motor drives.

From an in-the-field point of view, sometimes it is a race to see which opens up first--the fuse or the junction it's trying to protect.

its use to replace HV contactor. For high voltage and low
current it is less expensive  to use semiconductor like IGBT’s
