CAD to PDF Plotter Problem

CAD to PDF Plotter Problem

CAD to PDF Plotter Problem

(OP)
I'm hoping someone here can help me with what I am guessing is a pretty simple issue that I'm just missing.

So I am currently using AutoCAD LT 2007, to make these fairly simple maps for my employer. (they are pre-plans for the fire department to use that show fire suppression equipment in buildings on our campus). Keep in mind I'm a fairly rookie user, I'm self-taught and really only know how to do what I need to do. (basic drawings, blocks, layouts, plotting)

Anyway, he wants these maps converted to PDF so we can give electronic copies to the fire department, who doesn't have AutoCAD.

But when I use the built in CAD to PDF plotter it thickens all the lines in the whole drawing. This causes all of the floor plans to look cluttered and bulky, and makes any text look very bold and difficult to read.

If anyone can help me find away around this problem, I will be forever in your debt! I've been trying for weeks and can't find a thing.

RE: CAD to PDF Plotter Problem

Is there a plot style selection option when you are printing the PDF to file?  If there is, make sure you have a line thickness that is thin enough to make the lines not bleed together.

RE: CAD to PDF Plotter Problem

An analysis of AutoCAD's pdf's can be found at http://www.cadzation.com/acad2007.htm

Your results may be due to poor pdf writing in CAD.  You might try a freeware pdf writer, such as "cutepdf" or "pdf995".

RE: CAD to PDF Plotter Problem

I had the same problem, I believe that you don't have the correct driver for the PDF writer.
If you want, get the free pdf995 program from the web.  This nice program will easilty convert any cad file to a pdf, and the quality will be just as you get from the plot viewer screen. And you have good paper size selection.
regards,

Thanks so much everyone.

Unfortunately cutePDF does something even weirder where only the l's and i's in the text of the document get thicker.

I'll look into trying the pdf995 one.

As far as the service pack 1, I got really excited and thought that was going to solve the problem, but it won't install on my computer since I have AutoCAD 2007 LT and apparently it is for only AutoCAD 2007.  Anyone know of a LT Service Pack?
