Section VIII, Division 2 Tubesheets

Section VIII, Division 2 Tubesheets

Section VIII, Division 2 Tubesheets

(OP)
My company just received a job for some Shell & Tube heat exchangers that are to be designed per Section VIII, Div. 2. We have designed & built many vessels per Div. 2, but these will be our first heat exchangers. I was looking in Div. 2 & came across Mandatory Appendix 4, Article 4-9 for Stresses In Perforated Flat Plates.

Do I need to follow the requirements of this Appendix or do tubesheets fall back to the design requirements of Division 1?

RE: Section VIII, Division 2 Tubesheets

I would imagine that all aspects of exchangers need to be of the same Code.  I just don't see how a Div. 2 vessle could have anything less or different than Div. 2 components.

That's more of an opinion since I have next to no hands on experience with Div. 2.

RE: Section VIII, Division 2 Tubesheets

4-9 is the correct section.  You can't use the rules in Div. 1
