Unknown Error Opening File
Unknown Error Opening File
(OP)
I am running 2006 and am having a problem opening existing files. When I create a part or assembly I am able to save to our server but when opening the part/assembly at a later date I get an error message that says "Unknown error opening(file name) and the program crashes. When I log in to my computer using a different user account I am successfully able to open all files. It is just within my user name that I cannot access any parts. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I tried uninstalling and installing SolidWorks again but it did not fix the problem. Is there a file that is related to the one user name that can be erased, that will purge the preferences or whatever may be causing this occurrence?

RE: Unknown Error Opening File
Let’s see if this fixes it. Double click “MyComputer” icon. RMC on “Local Disk (C:) RMC properties and see is what is under Group or user name:. Also check to see if you have full control. If you do not have full control, get it.

I do have full control. I went to properties under Local Disk (C:) but there is no Group or User name option.

RE: Unknown Error Opening File
We did create another profile and the problem did go away. I'm just curious to know what caused this problem initially, how can I be sure it doesn't happen again - is it's SolidWorks related or just Windows related?

RE: Unknown Error Opening File
This happened to me when I logged onto an associates computer as me to install and setup SolidWorks. Our IT guys had to rebuild the system to get the other user to work. I did do the same thing to another user 2 days before without problems.
I will never ever again install SolidWorks while I am logon to my network login. I always have the user logon now. Never had a problem since.
