Are there any issues I should be aware of when running SW on a Dell workstation with Windows XP 64 bits?
When was the last time you drove down the highway without seeing a commercial truck hauling goods?

I already have 4GB of RAM. I am the only one in the department with Windows XPx64. I just need to know which SW should I install. I will also run SW Animator and Photoworks. I need to have an answer by Monday morning Eastern time. Unless there are real advantages in running SWx64 I will install x32.

RE: SW2007 SP2.2 32 bits on XP 64 bits
The most annoying thing (I don't think it is specific to x64) is that almost every time I open a drawing of an assembly SW stops. It opens about 2/3 of the drawing, I can see it on the screen in viewing mode, that just stops. Task manager shows it running, CPU is at 0%. I have to end SW and start it again. Now loads the same file quickly with no problems. And when I try to open another drawing of an assembly it does it again.
I wrote about this behaviour in another thread and I didn't get too much feed back. I thought it was my graphic card which was not SW certified. Now I have a different machine and it does the same or worse.
I am running SW07x64 on a Dell Precision Workstation 490, Intel dual processors at 2.33GHz, Windows XPx64, 4GB RAM, nVidia Quadro FX3500 with latest SW certified driver (6.14.0010.8426).

The lock ups of your machine could be several things. If you contact your VAR they should have a document "Troubleshooting a Crash Prone System" they can send you that is a check list of items to verify to eliminate system instability.

sldwkmin, I can try to talk to my VAR although he is not very helpful and I don't think that will fix the problem As I said it was happening with my old machine (which, by the way, was running SW2006 flawlessly), it is hapenning with my new machine and it is happening to my co-worker.
Oh, it just happened again.

I actually have two Pcs, one custom built 64 bit computer for Flow aanalysis, and one Dell Precision 380 for modeling. So far, it seems the 64 bit is more stable, but then again it sits most of the time just chrunching numbers.
RE: SW2007 SP2.2 32 bits on XP 64 bits
It sounds like you have the same system I do (albeit I have 8GB of RAM). I haven't seen any major issues with SW07x64, other than an occasional crash and some minor problems with PDMworks. I don't have the drawings problem that you mention. I did update my nVidia driver, but the SW certified driver worked as well.

Find the offending program on the drive, then go into properties and set the compatibility mode to run Windows XP.

I don't have this issue with SW07x32. So it's an SW07x64 problem.
I will let you know if I still have opening assembly drawings problems.
It looks like SWx64 has more bugs than x32. Probably there were not enough beta testers.
RE: SW2007 SP2.2 32 bits on XP 64 bits
Mouse wheel wont allow me to rotate model mostly when editing a sketch in assy edit mode.
Im getting toolbars stuck on the screen, ex. when I need to end the program through task manager, and the only way to get them to dissapear is to totally reboot the system.
That brings to another problem. When I first start SW in the morning, it locks up in the first session. (hence the task mngr solution)
While in task mngr I see that "draw compare" is running whenever I am running SW.
Also surface bodies turn on when ever I open a model that was saved with them "hidden"
I have reported this to VAR and we havn't heard even if these are bugs or ifits my system.
RE: SW2007 SP2.2 32 bits on XP 64 bits
Is your SW fresh install or upgrade?
What graphic card do you have?
Was antivirus software disabled when SW was installed?
The problem I was having with SW stopping when opening a drawing of an assembly is gone, at least for now. What I did was to increase virtual memory from 4 GB to 12 GB. Apparently virtual memory should be three times the amount of RAM you have.
RE: SW2007 SP2.2 32 bits on XP 64 bits
Nvidia Quadro FX1500 with the recomended driver, also tried other drivers with the same rusults.
No anti virus installed on this machine...........yet.
4gb ram and I do have a huge virtual mem, but I'll try increasing it.
Im thinking some of the lock ups may be hardware, we had it built locally (AGAINST MY RECOMENDATIONS) to spec's I was quoted from BOXX. I just need to verify its hardware so I can shove the machine back to mngmt. and tell them to deal with it.
Tyhanks for the help.
