Hatch question

Hatch question

Hatch question

(OP)
I have a model of a progressive die strip layout. In my drawing I want to show blanked thru holes and gutted shapes with a hatch pattern for review with the engineering team. But hatch does not recognize the holes or cut thru shapes...Is there a way to do this?

RE: Hatch question

In the drawing view, convert the edges of the features into a sketch, then use the Area Hatch/Fill function.

cheers

RE: Hatch question

Tom,

Here is a link to how I handle a strip layout.  Dig into some of the underlying sketches for the layout work of the die details.  I drive the die asm from the strip layout sketches.

I will add surface patches into the solid model. Nice visual while working the the model and they show up great in a drawing, if your drawing view is shown as a solid as opposed to wirefreame.

AnnaWood, Thanks so much for this example. I like your idea of surface patches.
My strip is very similar to yours, I've used linear patterns throughout. I think the biggest difference is I laid out all of my progressive guttings and piercing sketches on top of each other in the very first progression. Then I use linear pattern for each to array them down the entire strip. Then I turn on and off instances as I need. Then I use the 1st instance of the array (not the seed) for the first real tool station. When done, at the very beginning of my strip I extrude a simple rectangle and cut through all of the seeds so they do not show up in the strip.

RE: Hatch question

Tom,

Here is another take on a strip layout.

http://visualvault.auerprecision.com/ViewFile.aspx?DlID=60b16fc9-c0f0-40a5-a6a5-edad3f36c9dd

This was the first strip I did in SolidWorks. There is an error in one of the sketches that has to do with the main form, I just ignore it as the model still works correctly.

This shows partial forms and forms with spring back. With multiple models shown in the same station at different configurations so we could see all the movement of the part in the tool at that station.

This was a fun one and I learned a lot from that strip layout.
