JT files in NX4

JT files in NX4

JT files in NX4

(OP)
Hello all!

I'm interested in the fact that JT files can be used inside NX, but am having a couple issues:

1) it seems that an assembly will come in without component names (ie. all it gives is 'faceted body' for all parts)
2) is there any way to filter the import?  It wants to bring in all annotations, etc. and all I really need is the 3D parts!
3) I'd like to use 'sketch in place' on a face of the JT data, but sketch in place will not choose anything on the JT part!  How can I use a JT file (like a radio) to aid in developing the supporting brackets for example?

The JT files are created from IDEAS if that helps!

BUMP!

Guys, the JT documentation is really not helping - can someobdy please let me know HOW JT's can be used inside NX or is it just nice to have pretty, lightweight parts on screen?  Is it marketing, or does it help with design??

RE: JT files in NX4

I have no direct experience with JT files, but what I have heard of them mirrors your experience: they are just lightweight, faceted representations most suited to viewing applications.

If the files are coming from IDEAS users, can you get them to send parasolid files instead? Maybe UG can even open an IDEAS file directly (I'm not sure) since NX is the integration of UG and IDEAS.
