Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

PDMWorks really needs a way to sort documents in it's explorer views by vault status.  When you have 100, 200+ parts in a folder and you have to scroll through to see which ones have changed so you can reload the ones you didn't intend to, etc. it's very easy to miss them.  This is a feature that's sorely missing.  Would you help me and submit this as a feature enhancement request?

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

You can just RMB on a file in the explorer view and select "Update/Reload all from vault."  That way, you don't need to know which files are out of date; they'll all be brought up to date.

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

That's not the issue.  Please read what I described before.

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

I see your point, and I agree that it's worth an enhancement request.  I was just trying to let you know of an effective workaround in the meantime...

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

Yes... it's sorely needed.  I used to use ProIntralink and it had a feature like this.  Was very easy to see you had modified something you didn't intend to as well as see when other parts were updated by others (without constantly being reminded of updates which I consider SPAM like SW does if you turn it on)

The only issue with that workaround is that if you miss a component you updated and intended to and then reload all then you wipe out your changes... unless you have backups on.

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

Actually, the default is to only update files that are out of date (the downward red arrow).  Any modified files (upward green arrow) are left alone, unless you specify otherwise.

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

(OP)
Yes, but that workaround doesn't solve one part of the main issue I'm presenting... that if you inadvertently update a part you didn't intend to and don't notice it due to many other changes you did intend to make, then you can check-in a bad change.  Since they're not sortable you have to scroll through the entire list of parts and look at each green arrow.

RE: Method to sort PDMWorks documents by vault status?

Good point... I routinely have to scour my list of files to be checked in and take note of the files that I didn't change, but PDMW marked as changed anyway.

I don't know what version of Solidworks and PDMWorks you are using, but in 2007 there is a handy tool called my
PDMWorks clean up that I believe does what you are looking for. It will sort your files by newer, older, equal or in conflict. Alternately, you can choose to only list the files that are in a state that you choose, like newer for example.

To use it, it the PDMworks task pane choose the folder where you Solidworks files are located and RMB and select
My PDMWorks Cleanup.
cheers

My apologies. The MyPDMWorks Clean up tool will only sort
and allow you to delete files not update them.

Thanks Dan, I didn't know about that one... but, yes, it's too limited since you can only Delete.  Ugh!
