304 SS Plate Weights

304 SS Plate Weights

304 SS Plate Weights

(OP)
If the density of 304 plate is 0.29lbs/in^3, why do supplier have differing densities listed for differnt thicknesses?  I.E. one supplier has 1/4" plate weight listed as 11.16 lbs/ft^2, and 1" listed as 42.67 lbs/ft^2.  Would not 1" be 4 times 1/4"? If .29lbs/in^3 wouldn't 1/4" be 10.44 lbs/ft^2?

RE: 304 SS Plate Weights

the weight of products (whichis used to calculate price and surcharges) is based on the theoretical nominal thickness.  It all depends on how they are ordering it.  The buy pounds and sell square feet.  They plan on the thickness that they sell being less than the value that they use in the weight calculation.
