Fire Pump Test Runs
Fire Pump Test Runs
(OP)
I have some older systems in hi rise buildings with fire pumps that have never been set up or run as required. Some of these pumps will put the system upwards of 175psi. Would you shut the main valve and allow the CRV to circulate the water for the ten minutes and then put the system back in normal service?

RE: Fire Pump Test Runs
Better to break something now (if that is your concern) then have something break during a fire. A fire is the reason these systems exist at all.
If something breaks during a test you get to fix it.
On a side note I've dealt with some real old systems, one installed in 1909, and never had a problem with breakage.
