Hi,
Does anyone know how I can model a stent in CATIA V5R16 such as this one http://www.ninsight.at/Resources/CypherModel.jpg
In practice it is laser cut from a simple cylinder.
Is this geometry achievable in catia? What module should I use (I am not very experimented)?
I have the geometry of the mesh layed out flat but is it possible to convert/bend this shape into a cylindrical one?
Am a bit stuck with this :(

Note: you might need to split the surface in half and use symmetry to finish the part.

You can figure everything out on a sketch plane, based on the outside of the material, then fold it up, and offset the thickness.
So for fold, you use DL1, and for Thick Surface, you use Part Design.

The problem is that I can't draw the mesh direcly onto a cylinder (since it is not a flat surface)
so I have drawn the mesh on a flat sketch plane, I have offset it to give it some thickness and now I need to bend/fold this into a cylindrical tube. (But I understand that the tickness should be done at a later stage since the inner diameter is smaller than the outside once folded)
How is the folding up done? I'm not sure if I have the "DL1" or "work on support" benches as I don't find them (sorry I'm new to this).
When I look for "GSD" you mentionned I find "Generative sheetmetal design" and "Generative shape design".
Someone told me to try the "Imagine and shape" workbench, would that work? I'm a bit lost in all these workbenches...

Like I was saying, if you have the DL1, this should be a VERY simple part to model. (at least fold up) DL1 is not a separate workbench, but a module of the GSD workbench. IF you have it, it adds 3 commands to the GSD menu. (Fold, Unfold, and some other thing that I can't remember)
The licensing is going to be expressed as something like "MD2", or "HD2", or in your case, may be something entirely unfamiliar to a real world user, if it's educational. You need to ask the license administrator. Or, if you have "Nodelock Management" available as an option on your computer, you can also find out what the license setup is.
The best thing to do,is to go through the help docs, and find where to locate the functions described. If they're not available as described, you don't have them.

Even without this, however, you can still draw on a surface. If you right-click on the surface there is an option "Work On Support". This will allow you to create lines, curves, and points on a contoured surface the same way you would on a a plane (not quite as functional as a sketch, but close). That way you can lay out you grid on the surface. I don't know if it will work on a closed surface, though. That's why I suggested splitting the surface in half and mirroring the results.
