Adding a Logo to part

Adding a Logo to part

Adding a Logo to part

(OP)
I am having the most difficult trying to figure this out. I am working with a client's existing file that has their outdated logo on it. They want me to add their new logo. I have a JPEG file for it. How in the world do I add this to my part file? I am using SW 2006.

Please help me....I am at my wits end.

I added additional information using the sketched text option, but I can't add an Area Hatch/Fill to this text in the drawing. How is this done?

Thanks,
Chris

RE: Adding a Logo to part

Through the photoworks add-in, you can add a decal, if you have their new logo as a jpg, and stretch and crop to fit however you want.  Check out the solidworks help about it.

RE: Adding a Logo to part

Are you having trouble showing it on the part model or part drawing?

Is is etched/engraved/embossed into the part or just a "stick-on" label?

If "stick-on" use the Decal function ... if you have the PhotoWorks add-in and display the drawing view in shaded mode.

cheers

RE: Adding a Logo to part

I don't have PhotoWorks add-in.

It is a silkscreen.

I have no idea how the initial part file was created. I don't know what type of file was used (jpeg, eps....etc) to create the logo on the part. In the feature tree, it is simply a Sketch and I can't find any "reference" that the sketch was created from.

I did go in and remove a portion of the logo, but SW said it was part of an "externally referenced" file. But there is no where that I can see what the referenced file is.

RE: Adding a Logo to part

In the part model, you would use the Sketch Picture function ... select a face and start a new sketch, then Tools > Sketch Tools > Sketch Picture

To delete the existing picture, simply delete the sketch containing it.

You will not be able to show a Sketch Picture image in a drawing though. Only Decals can be shown.

Is the logo an actual picture or text or a set of sketched entities?

cheers

CorBlimeyLimey,

I think I already tried that method, but had the result you stated. It didn't show in the drawing (and I don't have Photoworks).

The logo is a JPEG file....I think it was created with Photoshop. Is there a way to take the logo and transform it into sketched entities?

RE: Adding a Logo to part

Yes ... depending on the complexity, you could trace over it once inserted as a Sketch Picture, or you could use a raster to vector convertor like WinTopo from www.WinTopo.com

cheers

RE: Adding a Logo to part

I don't think I would be able to trace over it, but I did download WinTopo. So, I just open the JPEG file in WinTopo and then "One Touch Vectorisation" the image and save it as a DXF? Is that correct so far?

If that is correct, how do I then get that added to the part file?

RE: Adding a Logo to part

That's basically correct, although there are some options/settings which can drastically alter the results.

Once you have a vectorised image, use the Save vector as option to save it in dxf format. Then you can import/copy it into a SW sketch as per normal.

cheers

CorBlimeyLimey,

Thanks for all of your help. I still can't seem to get it right.....I am a bit frustrated. Is there any chance that I might be able to e-mail you a couple files for you to look at and see if you can determine what is going on?

thanks,
Chris

RE: Adding a Logo to part

You can either post here for whoever has the time and inclination to see if they can help (see FAQ559-1177) or email me at my handle at lycos dot com.

cheers

RE: Adding a Logo to part

Chris,

Now that you have it as a DXF format you could use the insert DXF/DWG function that is in the drawing mode. To take it another step further once the DXF/DWG is inserted into the drawing you could select all the entities and turn it into a block so things don't shift around when moving it. You will then be able to dimension the logo to your part on the drawing. I hope this was some help to your problem.

Best Regards,
Jon Knabenschuh
