Best Solid Works Book

Best Solid Works Book

Best Solid Works Book

(OP)
I checked the FAQ's and could not find any info on sw books.
Is there a best one? Is the tutorial the best route to go?  I am looking for the quickest way to get up to speed? I have used AutoCad and VisionAEL in the past. I have experience with parametric programming but am not intimate with how the whole part, assy, drawing thing works, or at least how to apply it effectively in the real world.

Thanks,

Steve

RE: Best Solid Works Book

Scarg,

As far as the books go I can't really say as to which one is the best.  But by all means, take the time to go through the tutorial.  In fact it is a pre-requisite for all of the people that go through training for SW at out company.  If you do a search at barnes and Noble, you will come up with many titles on SolidWorks.  If you purchase a seat of SolidWorks, by all means go through formal training... there is no other way to guarantee your success with the tool.  It is a rather large "culture shock" going from the 2-d world into 3-d.

RE: Best Solid Works Book

You can also try contacting your VAR and ask to purchase a SW tutorial copy. That's what I used when I started to learn SW, they used to issue them with every seat.

I have never had any formal training from SW or a VAR. So it's not impossible to learn on your own. It may take longer depending on how much you use SW at work.

I hope that helps,

RE: Best Solid Works Book

There is also a book entitled: SolidWorks for AutoCAD Users. We bought a few copies for the draftsmen, but I have not even looked at it, so I unable to render an opinion. Like APPENG and SBaugh mentioned, try the SW tutorial. It's a great place to start.

Solidworks user manual is the best book so far

RE: Best Solid Works Book

  scarg,

I believe that the best way to learn SW is to take a time for going through the tutorials, however I can suggest to you 'SolidWorks For Autocad Users' by Greg Jankowski as a training book for the reason that you have used AutoCad. In my opinion, the best book on SolidWorks is 'Graphic Concepts with SolidWorks' by Richard M. Lueptow, Michael Minbiole, Prentice Hill publications.

  best wishes,
