Balloons on sheet #2 (details) need to match Sheet #1 BOM

Balloons on sheet #2 (details) need to match Sheet #1 BOM

Balloons on sheet #2 (details) need to match Sheet #1 BOM

SWX 2006 SP 5.0

I have an assembly and its BOM on sheet #1.
Sheets #2-9 (within same drw file) have dimensioned details for that assembly on them.
I want to be able to put a balloon on each detail sheet and have the number in that balloon read the same as on the Assembly BOM from Sheet #1. I do not want to go and put a hidden BOM on each and every detail sheet.
Is this possible?
Thanks

diamondcat,

Right click on the view and select keep linked to BOM and set the BOM to link to in the drop down.  Is that what you are looking for.  I get the impression you are trying to do something else.

In the views on subsequent sheets, go to the view properties and make sure the "Keep linked to BOM" option is checked.

Thanks for the response.
I had tried that on the second sheet but the only option in 'BOM to link to' is <none>.  When I do that same thing on sheet #1 a 'Bill of Materials2' is an option.  If I DO check the box anyway and put a balloon on the detail, it reads #1.  There is another detail on that page and when I balloon that one, it also shows #1 in the balloon.

RE: Balloons on sheet #2 (details) need to match Sheet #1 BOM

You cannot link detail drawings of parts to a BOM created from a view of an assembly, which I believe is what you are trying to do.  The reason is that the link between a drawing and its model is one-way only.  That is, a model file cannot be linked to information in a drawing file.  BOM information is only stored in the drawing file because it is based on the model referenced by a particular view.

RE: Balloons on sheet #2 (details) need to match Sheet #1 BOM

When using the SolidWorks BOM remember to RMC (Right Mouse Click) on the BOM on sheet 1 and select “Follow Assembly Order”. Insert your entire assembly onto sheet 2. Link the view to the BOM on sheet 1. Now in the tree of the view on sheet 2 “Hide Component” for all parts except the one you want to show. Now when you insert a balloon it will have the right number. You can turn off the leader under more properties if you want.

Further to what Handleman asked - it sounds as though the model you are showing on Sheets 2 (and up) is not the same as the model you are showing on Sheet 1.
