ASME PTC 8.2 vs. ANSI/HI 1.6 Centrifugal Pump Testing
ASME PTC 8.2 vs. ANSI/HI 1.6 Centrifugal Pump Testing
(OP)
Folks,
Got a testing question for you as its not my area.
I specified testing according to PTC 8.2 (I have a copy and it covered that which I wanted). I'm buying a Hayward-Gordon centrifugal pump (item replacement) and they only test according to Hydraulic Institute standard 1.6 and want me to accept that exception.
I don't have a copy of that standard around and was wondering if any of you can give me some insight into it possibly a comparison. Is the ANSI/HI a little light in requirements as Hayward-Gordon says they do not have the facilities to complete a PTC 8.2 testing and I can't understand why that is.
Any help you experts could provide would be appreciated.

RE: ASME PTC 8.2 vs. ANSI/HI 1.6 Centrifugal Pump Testing
If you specified a testing standard and they bid on meeting that standard, then it seems the least they could do is provide you with their testing document showing what they test and what the acceptance criteria are. If the testing document just says "test iaw HI 1.6," then they need to either give you a copy of the standard or revise their testing procedure to spell out exactly what tests are being done. Then you could compare to what you specified and see if they are equivalent.
Alternatively, you could go through PTC 8.2 and tell them exactly what testing needs to be done and what the acceptance criteria need to be. Have them put it in writing so you have a record as to what testing was required.
If you accept, sight unseen or even through somebody here saying they're equivalent, then the vendor is "off the hook" if any problems develop with the pumps in service.
