Post Weld Stress Relief For CRES

Post Weld Stress Relief For CRES

(OP)
I am currently working a repair of an elongated fastener hole on the flange of a Duct assembly.  The duct material is 0.063" thick 321 Annealed CRES per MIL-S-6721, Comp T1.  The repair is to fusion weld the surfaces using AMS 5689 filler.  I am unsure if it is possible to not perform a post weld stress relief in this application.

Any thoughts/experience on the topic would be helpful.

USACompositeGuy;
No post weld heat treatment is required for 321 stainless base material.

RE: Post Weld Stress Relief For CRES

I would be very concerned if PWHT was required.  You can't locally solution anneal this materail since some of it will end up in determental temperature ranges.  And putting ductwork in an oven for Solution anneal PWHT sound like a pretzel recipe to me. Long thin fabrications don't have the strength to support themselves at solution annealing temperatures.
