Exhaust air systems

Exhaust air systems

(OP)
Location; Philadelphia, PA

High rise building-condo units with retail @ 1st floor.

Owner has supply air to the corridors from roof top unit serving floors 2 through 11 discharged at one central location ( at the floor's elevator lobby).

All condos have three types of exhaust; kitchen, toilet and dryer in a push-pull set up ducted to the roof.

"L" shaped corridors would be basically under negative pressure from the constant draw by the condo's exhaust systems.

Owner wants to tie the ends of the corridor into the toilet exhaust via a exhaust grille exhausting 100CFM (Total 200cfm per floor). (suggests a variance)

My understanding of the code (IMC 2003 & 2006) directs against mixing of any specfic exhaust in this type of setting. Am I reading it incorrectly or what !!!!

His in house engineer as approved this type of set up.

ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !!

RE: Exhaust air systems

IMC 501.2  "Independent System Required"

Pretty clear to me!

RE: Exhaust air systems

In short, it's not allowed by Int'l Mech Code, NYS codes and etc.

Not to mention it's a dumb idea......

RE: Exhaust air systems

Why do they want to exhaust the corridor air?, I don't understand.
