How do I separate touching/overlapping parts?

How do I separate touching/overlapping parts?

How do I separate touching/overlapping parts?

(OP)
Hi, my problem is more complex than the title suggests. I have overlapping extrusions in a part model, but the extrusion that I want to cut goes through about 5 separate bodies. This means using 'Split' would take forever (over 80+ cuts in Split) and Combine doesn't work.

Is there a way to tell Solidworks (2006) to cut away a part that is touching multiple bodies (at the point where they touch)? Or create a line where it overlaps so I can extrude-cut it away?

If I'm not being clear or you don't understand please tell me.

Thanks

RE: How do I separate touching/overlapping parts?

A picture would help. See FAQ559-1100 for details.

It sounds like you are trying to use a multi-body part as an assembly.

If it's a multi-body part, can you not just merge the bodies?

cheers

RE: How do I separate touching/overlapping parts?

Have you tried a Combine/Subtract feature?  I'm with The Limey, a picture would be helpful.

RE: How do I separate touching/overlapping parts?

Rather than extruding the feature through the bodies, can you set the end condition to "Up to Next"?  That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Yeh that would be an option but there's more than one body and Solidworks won't let you select more than one body with 'Up to Next'...

Actually that's exactly what I should do, I was thinking of 'Up to Body', thanks a lot!

But if there was some other need for me to do what I originally wanted to, there isn't really a way to do it other than Split/Combine is there?

titaniumapple,
I can't see your pic. Please see FAQ559-1100.
