Open Source alternative to MatLab?

Open Source alternative to MatLab?

Open Source alternative to MatLab?

(OP)
Does anyone have experience of a good open source alternative to MatLab that is fairly similar in structure and functionality?

RE: Open Source alternative to MatLab?

www.scilab.org is a good stable product with a better user interface and roughly equivalent features.

Of course it does rather depend on which bit of Matlab you are interested in, you can't, as yet compile scilab programs into stand alone code. Coming soon I think.

Other free alternatives: maxima, octave

Thanks Greg,

Well, you know, I have very limited experience of MatLab and I'd like change that and learn the program well. So, I basically want to download a good eqvivalent on my home system and thus obtaining know-how that is useful in MatLab as well.

I'm goning to check out scilab.org

RE: Open Source alternative to MatLab?

Octave is more compatible, Scilab has some irritating differences in syntax.
