IGES WIREFRAME TO SOLIDWORKS??

IGES WIREFRAME TO SOLIDWORKS??

IGES WIREFRAME TO SOLIDWORKS??

(OP)
I would like to import a wireframe model from SURFCAM into Solidworks.

Anyone know how well it works?
Any speedbumps I should look for?

RE: IGES WIREFRAME TO SOLIDWORKS??

Should work fine.  Peruse the options before you import.  One option is whether to import curves as curve features or as sketches.  I recommend sketches.

Thanks.
I heard rumors that SW wouldn't import wireframes.
I'll take your advice about the sketches

What format is your wireframe in?

cheers

Doh ... ignore my last post ... I just re-read the thread title.
Time for a Scotch!

cheers

RE: IGES WIREFRAME TO SOLIDWORKS??

OK now I finaly have the wireframe file
I have it in IGES, SCPRT(surf cam),and RPT.
however when I import I get a message "file contains free curves/points which are not desired according to import options. import anyway".
Problem: it gives me no opportunity to alter the import options.
Prob. 2: If I try to import the SCPRT file I get the "locked or incompatible type" message?
Prob3: the RPT file gives the locked message also

When I do import the IGES with the curves I get a clean wire frame HOWEVER I would like to import as a solid ( Or at least sketches as THE TICK suggested)

RE: IGES WIREFRAME TO SOLIDWORKS??

Guy,

SolidWorks can't create a solid as there is not a closed volume of surface entities to make a solid from.

You will also not get automatic creation of sketches.

It is a wireframe, pure and simple.

Assuming you have a prismatic wireframe model, I believe you can use the wireframe to create surfaces. Then when you have a closed volume of surfaces you can create a solid when you knit the surfaces together.

Is your package of SurfCAM capable of generating surfaces?  If you create the surfaces in SurfCAM, then export those surfaces to SolidWorks you may have an easier time of creating a solid in SolidWorks.

Do these things in this order:

  1. Click menu items File --> Open
  2. Select filet type IGES
  3. Click on button labelled "Options"
  4. Select desired options for Free point/curve entities
