ASME Spec No. for AISI 8620 Steel

ASME Spec No. for AISI 8620 Steel

ASME Spec No. for AISI 8620 Steel

(OP)
I have a component I am supplying to a vendor to install on an ASME code vessel. It is made from AISI 8620 steel and the material certification from the mill shows the ASTM spec as #A829. The vendor wants me to furnish the ASME spec number that coincides with this ASTM spec number. Does anyone know a public source to cross over the ASTM spec number to an ASME spec number?

RE: ASME Spec No. for AISI 8620 Steel

The ASME equivalant is USUALLY the ASTM number with an "S,"  A-105/SA-105, A-516 70/SA-516-70, and so on.  ASME Code should be referenced for certainty.  To answer your question, I don't know of any.

I'm scratching my head trying to understand the relationships here.  I take it you're a materials supplier.  If so, what did the vendor ask for?  If they wanted SA-whatever they should specify SA-whater in the PO, don't ask for AISI 8620 and expect something else.  If the vendor is a vessel fabricator they should know that.

Anyway, the site below has some interesting info.  It doesn't list an ASME equivalent spec and implies the material is more suited for mechanical equipment applications.

Review ASME Section II, Ferrous and nonferrous material specifications. It lists the endorsed materials that are SA from ASTM A specifications. Not all ASTM Specifications have been endorsed by the ASME Section II  Subcommittee.

Please note that SA-829 is not listed in ASME II.
