new user - swept boss tubing help(?)

new user - swept boss tubing help(?)

(OP)
I am still 'learning as I go' with Solidworks 2005 and though I have been able to create tubing in the oval shape I desire on a flat plane, I am unable to figure out how to add a "rocker" to the ends of it.  I am just in the beginning stages of SW and I have tried redrawing it using a spine with success of 1/4 of it, but then I am unable to use the mirror tool to replicate it for the remaining 3 corners.

Anyone have some pointers that could turn my current hours of spent time, into progress?  I am so far, unable to find the help I desire with tutorials or help menu.

Thanks.
~Erik

RE: new user - swept boss tubing help(?)

What do you mean by a "rocker" at the ends?
Can you show a pic?

Check out FAQ559-520 .

Also, YouTube.com is increasingly receiving posts for video tutorials of various sorts.

Community colleges often have classes available for SW training.  Your VAR will, too.

Here are some pics of what I currently have.  What I mean by "rocker" is if you have it sitting flat on the ground, I would like the center touching and a gradual upward radius to the outer ends (tighter radius being the ends), so that they are 1/2" off the ground each side.  Like the feet of a rocking horse I guess.

Thanks for your response.  Jeff I will look at all the information provided.  Great resources, thanks!

RE: new user - swept boss tubing help(?)

In this particular case, I'd create an extruded surface with the rocker radius/curve.  On that surface, I'd project the Path sketch for your sweep.  Create your sweep Profile sketch, Pierced to your Path sketch (standard sweep), create the Sweep, and you'll have the sweep along the path as a curved entity.

Theo's method (creating a true 3D path) would be the  and most accurate way. If you want to modify what you show above, then try the Flex tool.

cheers

I agree.
I also thought of the Flex tool, but couldn't remember if it was available in '05.

Thank you guys!!

I found the flex feature and did exactly what I needed, and very easily too!  I tried the suggestion from Jeff and had some troubles, but I will be sure to play around with it to learn how to do it properly.

Thanks again for your time and help.
