Trim surface selection issue

Trim surface selection issue

Trim surface selection issue

(OP)
Howdy,
I'm trying to trim a surface (generated by offset) using a 3d sketch (splines on surface).  SW allows me to select the sketch as the trimming tool, but won't allow me to select the surface to be trimmed.  I've seen SW fail to allow selection of surfaces when looking at a sectioned view of the model, but this appears to be different.
Thanks in advance,
Dustin

RE: Trim surface selection issue

I've not used a 3D sketch to create a trim before.  However, you can extrude a 2D sketch to create a surface and use that for a trimming "blade".

In either case, you would need the entity (sketch [if that would work] or surface) to completely bisect the surface you want to trim.  If it doesn't span the full length/width/whatever of your surface, it won't work.

Reason trumps all.  And awe transcends reason.

RE: Trim surface selection issue

Try extruding a surface from the 3D sketch spline, and then using it as the trim tool.

cheers

Figured it out eventually.  The surface was basically cylindrical, which SW didn't like much.  I had to cut a section out, then could use the 3d sketch to trim the rest of it away.

Thanks for the help!
Dustin
