Etchant for Al-Cu Welds

Etchant for Al-Cu Welds

(OP)
I have several friction stir welded samples of aluminum and copper, but can't find an etch that attacks both without burning them up.  I need to look at the microstructure to understand what's going on during the welding process, so does anybody have any ideas on etchants that can be used on both aluminum, copper, and any intermetallics that may form?  Thanks!

RE: Etchant for Al-Cu Welds

My suggestion is to contact Buehler directly. They provide technical support, and will most likely have the information at hand.
