Post-installed anchors

Post-installed anchors

(OP)
We are in the process of designing a driven pile-supported platform over the water, which requires the use of post-installed anchors (dowels) to properly transfer the platform moments to the piles (18"x18").

After conducting the pile to slab moment/connection calulations we have sized the appropriate anchor (#8) and grout (Sikadur Anchorfix-4) based on the loads. However, while researching ACI Code D.5.2.2, we are concerned about concrete 'break-out" and the fact that there may be insufficient edge distance in the pile to address this phenomenon.

Can anyone provide any suggestions or direction for calculations? Is this an appropriate practice, even though commonly done in construction? We have already contacted the grout manufacturer.

Thank you.

RE: Post-installed anchors

If your piles fixed at the bottom, why do you need to fix the slab to the pile?

Sorry, I did not clarify. The piles are driven (theoretically "fixed"), however there is a horizontal load component (in addition to the vertical) affecting the slab/platform that induces a moment at the pile-slab interface.

Did this help?

RE: Post-installed anchors

Check out the ICBO report for Sikadur adhesive anchors.  It contains information about the effects of edge distance and spacing on anchor capacity.  Since this is based on tests specific to the anchor you want to use, I would go with this report.  If you do so, make sure you allow only this brand since the testing will not apply to any other anchor.

Thank you. I did receive that report from Sika after contacting them, so that's helpful to know you mentioned it. I will consult the recommendations therein.
