Chimney Material

(OP)
Hi,
I have to install a chimney for 2 interconnected 8500000Btu/hr boilers each.
Could you advise abour the type of material I have to chosse and also the ref. of ASME standard.

Regards,
Jabir

RE: Chimney Material

Jabirbht;
There is no ASME standard for chimney design/construction. You have several options; brick lined, Corten steel structure, or all Corten steel structure. I would contact an A/E firm that specializes in Power Generation project for further advice.

RE: Chimney Material

I guess it depends on how one defines "chimney" but I've used ASME STS-1 once or twice. Too long ago for me to remember details, but it's there and may be useful if you're looking at a steel stack with or without refractory lining.

But this chimney will be installed in a hotel building and will have about 100m height.

RE: Chimney Material

Building codes in most Jurisdictions have strict definitions for stack and chimney enforcement. Check with your local building codes on their terminology, and seek professional help from a qualified A/E firm. You cannot take chances in dealing with the public safety.
