Locked out of Database

Locked out of Database

Locked out of Database

(OP)
One of my colleagues gets the following error message:-

Unable to open master database due to the following database access error:

The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the
 '\\inov8\solidworks data\lang\english\SWBrowser.mdb'.
It is already opened exlusively by another user, or you need permission to view
its data.

The problem is related to his login on his machine (I do not get the error if I login on his machine).
My IT Bod tells me that he has the same permissions as me.
I also do not understand why the message refers to
'\\inov8\solidworks data\lang\english\SWBrowser.mdb' when our toolbox.ini file points to
'\\inov8\solidworks data\SWBrowser.mdb'
Please help, my VAR is floundering.
Thanks in advance.
Colin

RE: Locked out of Database

Are you trying to edit the SWBrowser.mdb?  Normally the message means exactly as it states.  When the database is located on a network and shared by users, only the first user to access it (by just using toolbox or holewizard) locks it out from the rest.

Hi SolidAir,
I am not trying to edit the SWBrowser.mdb. Just use toolbox or holewizard.
We have multiple users using toolbox and holewizard all the time. It is just this one user who has a problem. If he logs in and everybody else logs out..it works fine for him, but when others log in, they get the error.

I have deduced that he can "own" SWBrowser.mdb, but can not "share" it..?£!^*&£#

RE: Locked out of Database

in a multi-user environment you should be able to have multiple users using TB without it locking the browser out. If multiple users couldn't use it like this there would be some severe problems.

Is your problem anything like this - thread559-169356

Also look at the SW KB there is a lot of information on TB issues.

RE: Locked out of Database

Hi Colin,

Good day, if this user logs on to other computers does he still have the problem?

If he does, then this might be a permissions issue.

If he doesn't then it could be that either his Toolbox settings are not set for sharing (e.g. Always change read-only status of document before writing.) or his profile may be corrupt.

Hope this helps,

Joseph

RE: Locked out of Database

Have your "IT Bod" create a new user on his machine and try using TB. If that works, then have IT reset his original user profile or switch users.

cheers
