Truss-to-wall connection

Truss-to-wall connection

Truss-to-wall connection

(OP)
For wood roof diaphragms with wood trusses supported on masonry walls and subject to lateral wind load, how to calculate the shear load F1(parallel to the supporting wall) and F2(normal to the supporting wall) for the truss-to-wall connector design?

RE: Truss-to-wall connection

I try to detail the connection so that F2 approaches 0 load.  The F1 force is a result of your analysis for either wind or seismic.  I don't think I fully understand your question.

RE: Truss-to-wall connection

ASCE 7-02 covers wind load calculations.

dik & rday,if you look at the Simpson catalog, you may find the selection of Simpson strong ties or hangers for a truss-to-wall connection is based on uplift,F1,and F2 applied at this connection. My question is how to calculate F1 and F2 for a given building if it is subjected to wind loads.I think truss manufacturers should have softwares to do this. Now I am looking for some general principles of calculating F1 and F2 but I didn't find any in ASCE7 or IBC.

If you don't understand how to do this, you should not be sizing or choosing connections.  Leave it to someone who understands or seek advice from your senior engineers at work.
