Boring - See Civil Engineering

Boring - See Civil Engineering

Boring - See Civil Engineering

(OP)
I recall at university (Southampton England 96-99) a running joke involving the yellow pages.

Some smart alec had noticed that if you looked up boring (as in drilling) in the local yellow pages it said "See Civil Engineering".

We took great delight in pointing this out to our Soil Scientist Colleagues.

Does anyone else recall seeing this, I'm starting to think I imagined it as I looked in my local yellow pages the other day and it didn't have it.

Or, anyone have anything similar?

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

I have seen it with my own eyes (not a myth!).  But todays' Yellow Pages don't have it any more.

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

We had another joke about Civil Engineers:

You only need to know 3 things to be a Civil Engineer:

You can't push on a rope
Dirt + Water = Mud
S*** flows downhill

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

When I see "drilling", I think of dental.

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

When I hear the electric eraser spinning in the drafting room, I hear a dental drill.

During my days at the Uni, there was a studious ME student I met in the library who said he had thought Civil Engineering was boring, yet he had never worked in the field.  Perhaps, though, there you go, he was referring to what he saw in the Yellow Pages!

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

I was once talking to a couple people about engineering. Civil Engineering came up. One of the wives said "I never liked History!".
There you go ...

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

Haha...  The more life changes, the more it seems to stay the same... Go algebra!

Say, I would like a copy of that Yellow Pages reference.

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

I saw it in the Brighton, UK area version in the early 90's (I think).

It doesn't appear to be in the newer ones, hence my post.

The one I saw it in was Southampton UK version, early to mid 90s.

Thanks so much Sompting, I knew I wasn't imagining it.

SomptingGuy ... from your link;

"Civil engineers who tunnel are far from boring - it's a very incestuous industry,"
"incestuous" ???

cheers

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

Yikes!  It might be. Gladly I'm not in a position to comment.

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering

RE: Boring - See Civil Engineering
