Anti Dive - Understeer

Anti Dive - Understeer

Anti Dive - Understeer

(OP)
Hi, I´m wondering if somebody can help in the topic of anti-dive effecting U/S.
Does high Anti-Dive values, above 70% give turn-in U/S when braking into the corner?
Thanks for your help...

RE: Anti Dive - Understeer

An anti-dive split (oval application)(more anti on the passenger side than the driver side), will create the effect your question poses.  The degree of "anti", will vary with the amount of front brake percentage.

High anti percentages; are usually combined with softly sprung front suspensions (BBSS), as an example.

Thanks for your input but this is not exactly what I mean. Miliken says that "The transient when braking in a turn will be more sudden if ant-dive is added" Could this sudden change give U/S?

RE: Anti Dive - Understeer

More "sudden"; refers to geometric loading, verses spring/damper loading.

RE: Anti Dive - Understeer

"the transient when braking in a turn is more sudden" means the transient weight transfer front to rear is more sudden, so id say if anything it would give more O/S as it will unload the rear tyres quicker than with less anti-dive if you suddenly smack the brakes mid corner.

another question would be with more antidive, the outside front suspension will have to travel further from braking to mid corner, than if running low antidive. now with the car having to roll on the outside front on initial turn, does this mean the weight transfer across the front is slower? giving a "lazy" front on turn in??

RE: Anti Dive - Understeer

Quote from a very reliable race engineer: "We have a word for people who use lots of anti-dive. Backmarkers"
