Extruded Part Configurations

Extruded Part Configurations

Need help here please. How do I set the lenght of an extruded part? ie: Mid Plane extrude to a specific configuration. The selected extruded dimension property dialog box does not show the select boxes for Driven/Specify Configs...

Use Design Table? I checked several dimension Names in the sketch. The dimension I want to configure has the same name as another dimension?? I don't think the Design Table would work.

Any suggestions or work around? Your help is appreciated!

RE: Extruded Part Configurations

No two dimensions can have the same "complete" name. The names are feature dependant. For example, you can have:
Dia@skDrainHole and Dia@skFillHole.
You will need the complete dimension name for a design table.

Ok maybe the "complete name" is different as shown in the dialog box. I realy don't want to use a Design Table for the Configurations. My basic question is how to set "Configurations " to the extruded length dimension???

Poking around and I found the solution... A fast double click on the dimension brought up a small dialog box that allowed setting the Dim to the active configuration. SW help search should have covered this but dosen't??

Actually the help file does cover this, listed under configurations/dimensions/changing dimensions.

But it sounds like you found the right answer.

You can create design tables in the same manner. insert a new design table, it comes already formatted and go around double clicking the dims that you want.  it will automatically fill in the next available space in the spreadsheet with the dimension "address" (long dim name) and the current dim value in the space right below it.

The first cell (a,1) is blank and must stay that way.  the cell (B,1) reads "first instance" that you will edit to say whatever your configuration name will be. Now you can use the SWX functionality to create your table columns (the double clicking of dims), and use any sort of excel functionality to build the data inside.  Formulas, cut, paste, copy, etc.  it makes them very easy to build.
