Deep pit swine buildings
Deep pit swine buildings
(OP)
Hello
I have been asked to design a deep pit swine building in Kansas. I usually just do the environmental permitting work for these facilities and have never dealt with the concrete design. Would anyone be willing to share some design methods and specifications required for this type of project. What I am really needing is reinforcment or the walls and floor. Should I use rebar in the floor or can poly fibers be used? I am assuming the walls will have to have rebar. What size rebar should be used and at what spacings? How thick should the floor and walls be? What size footings should be used? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Reminds me of a comment I made to my cousin 40 years ago... he was studying Agriculture and I was studying Engineering... and there was general friction between the two faculties... told him that some of my engineering classmates said that aggies weren't fit to eat with the pigs and that I had to stand up for him... and told them that they were! <G>

The rebar spacing was a little tighter trying to eliminate cracking, and water stops were used at all the joints.

When my yougest was just a toddler, we got him a second 'stuffed bear' and asked him if he was going to name it... he said he would and it would be called "Fluffy two/too"; he had named his first one "Fluffy one". At the time I asked him if the 'one' represented a number or the item... and he said he wasn't going to tell me... When he named the second bear, I asked him if the 'two/too' was the number or if it was in addition... He told that he wasn't going to tell me that, either.
