Boiler Hydro

Boiler Hydro

Boiler Hydro

(OP)
Looking for a standard procedure to do a boiler hydro on a small package boiler, safeties lift at 200 and 205 psi.  Does anyone have a basic generic procedure or possibly a specfic one that I can modify?

RE: Boiler Hydro

What purpose do you intend the pressure test to serve?

Tests for new construction will have different criteria (and governing Code(s)) than post-construction, post-operation tests.  Ditto for tests following repairs or alteration vs plain old pre-start-up leak tests.

For new...ASME Section I + local & State authorities.

For "old" w/repairs/alterations...NBIC + local & State authorities.

For leak tests...110% operating pressure or 85%-90% the relief valve set pressure(s).

RE: Boiler Hydro

RPS.....

In what state, county, contry or municipality are you located ?

Why are you doing the hydro ?

And most importantly, who is the governing body that will accept the test results ?

RE: Boiler Hydro

Procedures for boiler hydrostatic testing, not test pressure requirements, are developed by boiler OEM's and repair organizations that hold a valid R- Certificate with the National Board. In other words, you need to write your own procedure and have it approved by your AIA of record.

RE: Boiler Hydro

Usually the boiler OEM provides a procedure writeup in the O+M manual.

Add'l precautions for a safe hydro can be found in the asme sect VIII, various paragraphs.
