I typically set my Open Dialog Box file list view to "Thumbnails" because it gives me a visual ref to the file contents.

In my work folder I have 20 SW files. 2 Assemblies, 16 Parts, & 2 drawings. 7 of the part files don not have thumbnail views and just show the SW cubed icon. Is there a way to refresh the files so a new thumbnail is generated? These same files also do not preview as they should, SW reports "Preview is not available" in the Open Dialog Box. In case it matters, these are all newly created SW2007 files

Thanks,
tom

RE: Thumbnails

That preview graphic should be saved each time the file is saved.  What do you mean by "newly created"?  Can you open one  of the files, change its orientation, save it, and close to regenerate the preview?

RE: Thumbnails

Is it only these new files that do not show the thumbnail, or do all of them not show the preview?  You might check Tools > System Options tab > General > Show thumbnail graphics in Windows Explorer.

What I mean is all of the part files have been created new with 2007. They are not converted from older versions or imported or anything.

Handleman, yes if I open up the file and resave it the preview comes back...But why is it gone in the first place? Is it something I did? or can prevent. All of these files have been worked on and saved many times in the last week. So it seems that the preview randomly does not work

SMcadman, that check box was not checked, so I checked it then shut solidworks down, restarted it and I still have random thumbnails visible in the Open dialog Box

Any thoughts??

RE: Thumbnails

So then I am not the only one with this problem?  I have that thumbnail check-boxed also, and I only see the part/assembly/drawing icons instead of the actual thumbnail in Windows Explorer.  This happened after upgrading to SP2.0.  The other users here have the thumbnail instead of the icons.

I didn't ask about it because I feared the dreaded "Are your graphic card's drivers the SW recomended drivers" question! pipe

funny, the thumbnails all work in explorer, but not in SW Open Dialog Box where some display and some do not..go figure!!

RE: Thumbnails

Do the thumbnails appear in the Design Library?

In the SW Open dialogue window, do you not use the Preview option?

The thumbnails use a suprising amount of resources. Have you tried running without that feature enabled to compare performance?

cheers

CBL, when the thumbnails dont work neither does the preview..If I open the part and save, the thumbnail and preview work again. But then at some point they randomly do not work again.

RE: Thumbnails

I show thumbnails/previews in Win Exp, SW Exp, PDMW and SW Open.
