Collision constraint

Collision constraint

Collision constraint

(OP)
hi:

I was wondering if this could be done in inventor:

I have an assembly that has a part that serves as a cap and a pin that goes into the cap. I would want to make the pin stop its motion when it touches the end of the cap, in other words when the pin collides with the inner part of the cap, the motion should of the pin should stop like an inverse mate constraint, is there anyway you can make this happen?

RE: Collision constraint

Hi fmh56,
The terminology Inventor uses for what you're asking about is "contact sets." Right click on one of the components and select "contact set." Do the same thing on the other component that you are wanting to contact. When both components are contact sets, go to the Tools pull down menu and select "Activate Contact Solver". This should do exactly what you are trying to do. The pin should stop it's motion as soon as it hits the cap.

RE: Collision constraint

One thing you will want to be aware of is that if the pin and the hole create a press fit, this wont work the way you would like it to. The parts will stop as soon as there is contact.
