Nyloil Substitute
Nyloil Substitute
(OP)
I am looking for a Nyloil substitute material.
http ://www.mat web.com/se arch/Speci ficMateria l.asp?bass num=PCAST0
It is for a wheel that needs to withstand impact from heights of 10 ft +, be shock absorbing, and withstand a range of temperatures.
Also injection moldable materials are a plus.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help

RE: Nyloil Substitute
From your very limited information, I would guess black plastic would be fine...
Otherwise, injection mouldable MoS2 filled nylons are such as Nylatron (Google for), and I guess there are many others. btw, MoS2 nylons are very difficult to dry as MoS2 is very hygroscopic. Need Vacuum or desiccant dryer.
Cheers

I just had a look and found many grades of nylon 6 filled with PTFE, oil, MoS2. You may also find it with graphite as filler.
RE: Nyloil Substitute
It is very dependant on specific details of the application. The information you provided falls far short of what is required for a reasonable suggestion.
The information on Nyloil is a bit doubtful re melting temp and moisture absorption. I don't have time to research in detail to determine the nylon type, but if you can find a match for both melting point and moisture absorption, it should be the same type.
Cast nylons have a better impact strength than injection moulded parts with similar other properties.
