Hello all. Need some advice
We have been using 400 and 500 AR type plate in our ductwork for wear resistance due to massive amounts of flyash.
At one point in this ductwork the temperature runs about 700 F and at another part it is about 350 F. What I am wondering is at this temperature does the wear resistance of the AR plate fall off and would I be better off saving my money and just using cheap carbon steel?
Furthermore, at these temperatures would a higher chrome content material do better that the hardened plate?

I can tell you from experience that the abrasion resistant grades provide no benefit at or above 450 deg F. The reason is because the plates are subjected to a quenched and tempered heat treatment designed for applications not exceeding the original fabrication tempering temperature.
For higher service temperatures (above 450 deg F) you are better off with hardfacing or using impingement plates or hardfaced vanes to direct gas flow away from the carbon steel surfaces of duct.
Carbon steel duct work is good to about 750 deg F.
