Standard for plastic or HDPE pipes and fittings
Standard for plastic or HDPE pipes and fittings
(OP)
Hi all,
Just wondering, is there any engineering standard for valves and fittings made of plastic and HDPE materials, for the pressure and physical dimensions?
we have a system for hadnling chlorine, in absence of proper drawings/specification, its difficult to get the spare valves/fittings.
regards

RE: Standard for plastic or HDPE pipes and fittings
ASTM D3350 Polyethylene Pipe and Fittings
ASTM D2837 Pressure Design Basis for Thermoplastic Pipe
ASTM D2104 Polyethylene Pipe
ASTM D1784 PVC and CPVC Compounds
In any case, I don't believe HDPE is suitable for chlorine handling.

My issues with platic piping systems relate to the glued joints. I have seen a lot of testing that shows glues that are supposed to be equivalent produce joints that have significantly different chemical tolerance.

Also, are you handling chlorine gas, chlorinated water, or sodium hypochlorite? Makes a big difference in acceptable piping materials.
I've also seen issues with the solvent cements used for PVC that EdStainless mentions
