SolidWorks will not let you modify their database so you have to copy theirs to a new name, hence “Ansi Inch MyThreads”.   To modify the Hole Wizard you see in your SolidWorks 2007 PropertyManager, click Tools, Options…, System Options, Hole Wizard/Toolbox, Configure…, Settings, Login… type in the Password. Go back to Content and add or modify the tables as you wish. I have removed Ansi Inch, BSI, DIN, GB, ISO, JIS, Helicoil Metric, Helicoil Inch, DME, HASCO Metric, PCS, Progressive, and Superior from the PropertyManager. Also I have turned off from view #5-40, #5-44, #12-28, and #12-24 threads from the PropertyManager.

RE: Editing Hole Wizard PropertyManager dialog

So you actually edited and removed those types from the SW ANSI Hole Wizard?

I wouldn't have done that, because its possbile you might have corrupted the DB file in SW browser or Default.mdb file. Which each one is crucial to the use of SW hole Wizard and Toolbox and the way it functions.

Bradley,

What is your question?

SolidAir,
I have no question here. I was letting others know that they too do not need to live with the standard tap size setup in SolidWorks. I cannot modify SolidWorks database, but I can copy theirs and change it under my own name.

RE: Editing Hole Wizard PropertyManager dialog

Bradley,

You probably know this already; if you create your own standard you also must create that standard in the calloutformat.txt file so hole callout will work correctly.

And, by the way, if you have Microsoft Access, you can modify the SolidWorks database file directly.  However, I do not reccommend it (unless you work allot with database tables; there is quite a few of them).  Also, as Scott pointed out, toolbox can also be affected.  If you mess it up, there is no support from SolidWorks.  And you are also at the mercy of the SolidWorks programmers who may decide to change the way the tables are accessed in the next release and now your modifications no longer work correctly (know this from experience).

You may also want to check out FAQ559-1183 How do I create my own Hole Wizard standards Database for additional information.

SA,
I had to create my own 15/16-16 un thread. I put in a 1-12 then text edited the drawing. The next new design I did a copy of the model, changed the part. And forgot about the thread callout. Machined the part wrong. Then another engineer did the same thing twice. Two more different part were made wrong.

RE: Editing Hole Wizard PropertyManager dialog

I believe if you change the hole callout in the cosmetic thread definition that won't happen again.  Of course you'll have to insert the model item call out in the drawing not the annotation variant.

RE: Editing Hole Wizard PropertyManager dialog

Ok, I want to modify my Toolbox data.  Nothing major, just some of the dimensions for screw clearances in he Hole Wizard.  How do I get rid of the little "lock" on the content tab to achieve this?  I've tried everything I can think of.

You will have to copy their database and modify your own. At least that is what I had to do too add a hole. SolidWorks will not let you modify their database so you have to copy theirs to a new name, hence “Ansi Inch MyThreads”.   To modify the Hole Wizard you see in your SolidWorks 2007 PropertyManager, click Tools, Options…, System Options, Hole Wizard/Toolbox, Configure…, Settings, Login… type in the Password. sdb999,

What version of SolidWorks are you using?
