Raw water intake design

Raw water intake design

Raw water intake design

(OP)
I'm working on the design of a raw water intake structure shaped like a vertical tower with 3 intake levels. It will be located in a lake with water level up to 200 ft from the bottom of the lake.

Any similar experiences, or good book references on design of raw water intake facilities, especially the constructability and design calculations.

RE: Raw water intake design

Some dam design books such as the USBR's Design of Small Dams (http://www.usbr.gov/pmts/hydraulics_lab/pubs/manuals_monographs.html)  might be good for examples and hydraulics.  I believe the US Army Corps has some good references but cannot think of the titles now.

If you want an outside reviewer I would think that a good Dam Consultant firm may be helpful.  You can get in some sedimentation problems with intake towers so any help for future maintenance you can provide is good especially extra gates or locations for possible extra gates.

If there is a dam you may also want to check with the local dam authority.  They may have some preferences and require review.
