Which one is more resource hungry?

Which one is more resource hungry?

Hey guys, I'm going to switch from CATIA to solidworks in a few days. I'm wondering which of the two programs require more system resources to run. In particular, does solidworks require a more advanced video card than catia? The reason I ask is on the catia site, it just says you need something with 3D OpenGL, but the solidworks website  actually gives you a list of certified Video cards.

Thanks for the help!

RE: Which one is more resource hungry?

The certified video cards are ones that SolidWorks has tested and approved for use.  In many cases, those cards have particular settings for CAD.  I don't think you can draw a conclusion about system resources from that.

RE: Which one is more resource hungry?

I don't think you will find a definitive and realistic comparison of resource needs. The fact that SolidWorks has published a list just means that they have taken the time to test VCs and care enough to publish the results.

While Catia's statement that "A graphics adapter with a 3D OpenGL accelerator is required" is true, it really isn't very helpful. Catia may run on any low-end OpenGL card but it may not run very well.

cheers

Thanks guys, hopefully my current CATIA V5 R17 computer will be able to run solidworks 2007 smoothly.

RE: Which one is more resource hungry?

@Eliu,

I run both SWx 06 and CATIA v5r14 on the same computer (a "home built") Chances are that if your CATIA is running good, so will SWx.

I agree with Wes. You should not have a problem.
