50 or 60 Cycle power in China

50 or 60 Cycle power in China

50 or 60 Cycle power in China

(OP)
My company is considering sending some equipment we have to a plant in Mainland China.  One of the units is a 1500 HP, 4160 volt compressor.  I am conserned that if there power is only 50 cycles then this unit will not be able to operate efficiently if at all.  Can anyone tell me what power they have. Thanks. bobegler

RE: 50 or 60 Cycle power in China

China has a 50 Hz power system. Beside this the voltage of 4160 V is not common in China.

RE: 50 or 60 Cycle power in China

I think you'll need to buy a new motor.  You could deal with voltage by use of a dedicated transformer, but your 60 Hz motor won't perform well on 50 Hz and will run at 5/6 of normal speed.

You can probably get a motor locally.

RE: 50 or 60 Cycle power in China

Typical medium and low voltage levels in China are:

6.3 kV 3-phase, 415 volt 3-phase, 230 volts 1-phase.

Frequency is 50 Hz.  If your equipment is using low voltage AC control power, it is typically 230 volts 2-wire, with the neutral side grounded (similar to the 120 VAC power in the U.S.).  They typically do not use any 120 volt AC power.
