pump selection

(OP)
hello everyone, I have a general question, i need a pump that would be cheap, and be able to push a relatively small amount of fluid effiecently for short amounts of time. I know there is mutiple types of pumps that can be purchased. Any suggestions on which ones would be the best for my application? Thanks

RE: pump selection

What fluid?
How small or great a flow?
What pressures?
What temperatures?
What purpose, general mechanical use, food process, oil gas, chemical, potable water supply?
Might as well ask how long too?

As Biginch ask: your application?  Just what is your application?

sorry for being vauge, temp 25 degrees C, viscousity close to water, very low amounts because this is a model of a bigger system, the model hasnt fully been design yet but i think were talking less then a gallon flow through .5inch pipes. I plan on doing a modified bernioulis analasis in order to find out what pump power will be needed to generate the flow through the system, but from the looks at it were talking about pushing fluid a couple of feet horizontaly and a foot vertically

i forgot pressure, yeah im not looking at any exterme pressures, just enough the start of the system to power the fluid the way through the system. nothing crazy

RE: pump selection

There are a lot of good metering pumps on the market such as LMI

RE: pump selection

If you don't need much more than 12" WC, how about a big pipe/tank at elevation.

You fill it up when you need to "pump" and let gravity do the work.

Or, am I over simplifying this?

for that i would to to constantly be filling the tank to generate enough head to power the fluid through the system, Thats my back up plan, however im just trying to get some input to pumping systems so i can weigh the pros and cons

RE: pump selection

looks like a diaphram pump for lab use. Contact your local lab supplier.

philgrates,

Use a hose?

Or, you can use the level controller that a toilet tank uses (the float thingy). I believe Fisher used to make one.
